Description

HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

Miller of St. Monance need little introduction as one of the most successful boatyards in the UK. James Miller built many fishing boats at his yard in St Monance on the Fife coast, the largest over 70′. He also built some very fine yachts to various UK designer’s plans working from the 1930s through to the sale of the yard and subsequent closure in the 1970s. The yard used their knowledge of the Scottish fishing boat, famous for it’s sea-worthiness, to produce a range of motor sailers, the Fifers, which became very popular and were built from the late 1950s through to the end of the yard’s production. The Fifers followed the lines of their working sisters having long keels, a powerful sheer, good freeboard and a signature canoe stern though some of the last boats built had transoms as a quicker build option. Sizes varied from the little 26ft six tonners, the 28ft nine tonners, the most popular 33ft twelve tonners and a few larger models close to 40ft, some with twin engines.

LYNSEY LASS was built as a North Sea commercial fishing vessel, by the world-renowned yard of James N Miller of St Monance in Fife in 1954. She was first registered in Berwick in 1955 (BK 002).
The hull is of larch planking (1 ¼”) on oak frames (5” x 3” sawn).
She was professionally converted to her present layout in 1967-69, and the engine was replaced by a Gardner 4LW at that time. 2:1 reduction to fixed three-blade propeller.
She has been in the careful current ownership since 1982. Over this time, LYNSEY LASS has proven to be an extremely safe and reliable vessel having cruised extensively from Ireland to the west and north of Scotland on countless family holidays.

Cruising Speed 7.0 knots at approx. 2.5 gallons per hour
Freshwater 30 gallons
Fuel (diesel) 125 gallons

Layout – 3 double berths and a single in the wheelhouse. Fitted galley and head compartment with marine wc, with wash hand basin. The wheelhouse has a chart table to port and helm position with folding helmsman’s seat. Access is by the wheelhouse door from the stern deck with companionway to the saloon area. There is a forward hatch in the forepeak.

12 volt 160ah battery dedicated to starter fed by a shaft-driven dynamo. 24-volt system (two 12 volt batteries) fed by 60 amp alternator supplies auxiliaries. Some 12-volt equipment is supplied by a 24/12 volt inverter.
Fuel tanks are stainless steel
Water tanks are flexible rubber.
Bow winch is Lofrans Tigre. 40 meters of anchor chain and a 35lb CQR.
Ketch rigged and a continuous guard rail everywhere except forward of the foremast.
Double sink Galley has gas cooker/oven.
Two gas bottles in the external locker.
Equipped with a 4 man life raft (out of test)
Two automatic bilge pumps and one whale manual pump.
VHF radio
GPS

Additional equipment includes a framework and tarpaulins for winter storage.
